The Inn is located near the center of Lisbon, Iowa on .65 acres
of very gently sloping land. The Inn offers six individual
rooms and one suite, totaling over 1300 square feet of flower
gardens. All rooms are meticulously maintained and well
appointed, each having its own unique features and amenities.
Each room has a variety of perennial and annual plants,
carefully selected for the amount of daylight, moisture and
protection it receives. Each plant provides one or more of the
following: hosting, where butterflies may lay eggs that become
caterpillars, chrysalis’, and adults; nectar, the food on which
butterflies and other insects eat; and cover, protection for the
butterflies and other critters visiting the Inn.
The Inn is open 24 hours/day and all types of butterflies are
welcome at any time. Other families are invited to visit
provided they behave themselves, do not harass the butterflies
or their eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis’, or food supplies.
Insects violating this rule may be evicted, or worse. Birds are
welcome also and several rooms have special arrangements for
eating, drinking, and bathing, particularly during the winter
months. Nesting is encouraged and several bird houses are
available for seasonal rental.
Reservations are not necessary but very large parties are
discouraged, especially if the participants become rowdy or
pesky. Out of respect for the Inn and its invited guests,
members of the Canine Family are not allowed on the grounds
without special invitation of the Proprietors. Felines are
welcome but are discouraged from bothering the birds.
